This is a K.B. King photo of 107 and 108 on their first break-in run heading west. According to a talk King gave before his passing many years ago, the train encountered fierce headwinds running west across the plains and ran out of fuel around Hereford, TX. King had photos of the train sitting dead out among the farm fields waiting for a fuel truck to arrive so it could limp into Clovis for a complete refill. The FP45's partitioned underbody tank allotted more space to steam generator water than to diesel fuel!
